What is HUG?

The Home Upgrade Grant Scheme is a £2.5bn manifesto commitment to provide energy efficiency upgrades and low carbon heating to low income households that are living off-gas grid in England to tackle fuel poverty and reach net zero ambitions.

The Midlands Net Zero Hub has received £28m for the first phase of the HUG scheme which will run until 31st March 2023. The funding administered to the Hub forms part of the total funding allocated to the five regional Hubs in England by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

The HUG scheme will allow eligible homeowners to get £15,000 – £25,000 to install low-carbon heating methods in their homes, such as low-temperature heat pumps. The objective of the scheme is to alleviate fuel poverty, by lowering energy bills, while also helping transition to net zero.

Who is eligible?

– Have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of E, F or G – the local coordinator in your area can check this for you – and

Find out more about EPCs and whether your property has a valid certificate on the GOV.UK website.
