National Net Zero Policy
In 2019, the UK Government has set a legally binding target to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This target followed on from the international Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
At COP29, hosted in Azerbaijan in 2024, the UK unveiled a new target to reduce emissions by 81% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels.
Since setting the 2050 net zero target, the UK Government has produced a number of key documents that outline how the country will achieve this.
