Following a competitive Expression of Interest process led by the Midlands Net Zero Hub (MNZH), we are pleased to announce that Klere Limited has been selected as the independent consultancy to support the development of innovative, area‑based carbon insetting solutions across the region.
Four areas across the Midlands have been chosen to participate in this pioneering programme:
- Birmingham
- Leicestershire (consortia)
- Lincolnshire (consortia)
- Walsall
Klere will work closely with each authority or consortium to:
- Assess local carbon insetting opportunities and feedstock analysis.
- Develop tailored case studies and investable business cases.
- Establish governance models and explore potential joint ventures.
- Contribute to national guidance to support wider adoption of carbon insetting approaches.
This project builds on the success of Shropshire Council’s demonstrator, which uses pyrolysis to convert green waste into biochar and renewable energy, generating verified Carbon Removal Certificates (CORCs) while creating a scalable circular economy model.
Together, this collaboration will accelerate the development of local carbon removal pathways, support Net Zero ambitions, and create economic and social value within communities across the Midlands.
