About the Hub

Making local net zero projects happen.

The Midlands Net Zero Hub is funded by the Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to help local authorities, public sector organisations, and the communities they serve reach their ambitious net zero goals.

The Government has set out a target for the UK to reach net zero by 2050. While local authorities only contribute around 6% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, they have influence of over 30% of emissions and they can drive emission reductions in their areas.

Reaching net zero requires a huge transition, so since 2018, we have supported partners in the Midlands to accelerate their sustainability projects. We support schemes from the earliest stages of feasibility and development through to investment readiness and delivery. We also facilitate investment into local decarbonisation initiatives, increasing the number, quality, and scale of net zero projects delivered across the region.

Our expertise includes strategy development, local energy generation, transport, domestic and non-domestic retrofit, and more.

The aims of the Midlands Net Zero Hub are to:

  • Increase the number, quality, and scale of local net zero projects being delivered
  • Raise awareness of the opportunities and benefits of local projects and investment
  • Enable local areas to attract public or private finance for their net zero projects
  • Support co-ordination and collaboration between partners
  • Share local learning both regionally and nationally
