Nottingham City Council Portfolio Review Support

Location: Nottingham

Non-domestic retrofit

About the project:

We collaborated with Nottingham City Council in preparation for future Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme bids. The aim was to help the organisation review the property portfolio in order to prioritise the most suitable projects for decarbonisation scheme support. The review would involve an assessment of projects across a range of public sector buildings, such as: Local government buildings, educational facilities, Healthcare facilities, leisure centres and community centres.

Key facts:

NCC has a large and complex property portfolio

The organisation faces internal challenges which make future portfolio planning difficult

Nottingham City Council declared a climate and ecological emergency and, along with its partners, set an ambition to be the first carbon neutral city in the UK by 2028.

Lessons learnt

Ever changing portfolio priorities required wider scope of potential projects to be considered.

Facilitating Data Collection: baseline data on energy consumption, carbon emissions, and existing infrastructure for each building in the portfolio & Analysis Collect. This is often challenging due to lack of recourses to collect and records to review.

Identify which buildings have already undergone energy efficiency measures (such as insulation or lighting upgrades) and which require further intervention.

Role of the Hub

Working with Nottingham City Council Environment and Sustainability teams, we undertook Portfolio assessment. This involved assessing relevant buildings, energy and emissions data and information to inform decision making. The goal is to understand profile of estate and which buildings should be prioritised for further planning work.

A Portfolio Review also helps evaluate how effectively public sector decarbonisation efforts are progressing, ensure alignment with the council’s climate goals, and guide future investments.
