What is LAD?

The Midlands Net Zero Hub has received a total of £54m of Government funding as part of the Phase 3 of the LAD scheme, which will run until March 2023.

The Hub is using local knowledge and regional expertise to identify those households which are most likely to require support, and which would best benefit from energy efficiency upgrades. We are allocating funding to local authorities to deliver LAD 3 to improve the energy efficiency of homes of low-income households (under £30,000) living in their area. The scheme aims to improve low energy performance certificate (EPC) E to G rated homes. This will deliver progress towards sustainable warmth – reducing household energy bills as well as supporting the phase out of fossil fuel heating and the UK’s commitment to net zero by 2050.

In the Midlands, local authorities are delivering schemes with the support of local coordinators who can help answer questions about the scheme and check eligibility. Local coordinators can also support with switching energy provider and other services to help households save money on their bills.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility measures will differ in each local authority so contact your local coordinator for more details about which measures your home could benefit from. Measures may include improvements such as insulation, double glazing, replacing gas boilers with low carbon alternatives, and installing solar panels.

Eligible homeowners could get up to £10,000 of fully funded home improvements depending on their Local Authority scheme and the energy efficiency measures needed. Private or social housing landlords with eligible tenants can also apply to get up to £5,000 towards the cost of home improvements, with landlords required to contribute at least a third of the cost. This means landlords can get up over £7,500 worth of measures installed for a minimum contribution of £2,500. Landlords may agree to additional works with the scheme manager at their own expense.

You could be eligible if you:

– Have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of E, F or G – the local coordinator in your area can check this for you – and

– have a combined annual household income under £30,000 (gross) or live within an approved LA area

Find out more about EPCs and whether your property has a valid certificate on the GOV.UK website.

To find out more about applying for the scheme, eligible homeowners and landlords can contact their local coordinator.
