What is HUG?

The Home Upgrade Grant Scheme is a £2.5bn manifesto commitment to provide energy efficiency upgrades and low carbon heating to low income households that are living off-gas grid in England to tackle fuel poverty and reach net zero ambitions.

The Midlands Net Zero Hub received £28m for the first phase of the HUG scheme which ran until 31st May 2023.

A further £138m has been received for the second phase of the HUG scheme which will run until March 2025.

The funding administered to the Hub forms part of the total funding allocated to the five Local Net Zero Hubs in England by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

The HUG scheme will allow eligible homeowners to get £15,000 – £25,000 to install energy efficiency measures and low-carbon heating methods in their homes, such as low-temperature heat pumps. The objective of the scheme is to alleviate fuel poverty, by lowering energy bills, while also helping transition to net zero.
